The Lincoln Lawyer, a Netflix adaptation, offers a fresh look at a cast of characters that have already appeared in books and films. The series is based on Michael Connelly’s 2007 novel The Brass Verdict. The second in his The Lincoln Lawyer novel series, which began in 2005. The Netflix series is actually the second adaptation of the books. The first one was a highly acclaimed film stating Matthew McConaughey. And naturally, many characters from the previous films appear in the show with fresh faces.

Role in the Show

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo has been cast as Michael “Mickey” Haller Jr. in Netflix’s version of The Lincoln Lawyer, replacing Matthew McConaughey. Mickey works out of his Lincoln town car since he has cases all over Los Angeles County, so he relies on his driver to deliver him to courthouses as he analyses case files in the back seat.

Izzy Letts is a defendant whose case is dismissed by Mickey, and she pays his fee by driving him about. As recovered addicts, they also assist one other in avoiding relapse. In The Brass Verdict, Izzy replaces Patrick Henson as a pro-surfer with a queer woman of color, allowing The Lincoln Lawyer to delve deeper into some of the story’s topics and give greater representation.

All The Office fans will surely recognize Jazz. She appears in two episodes of The Office between 2006 and 2007. She played Stanley Hudson‘s daughter in the episodes. Jazz was also a part of the hilarious TNT police comedy Rizzoli and Isles.

Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine plays Detective Raymond Griggs, a member of the Los Angeles Police Department, in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer series. Griggs is looking into the death of Jerry Vincent and believes Mickey knows more than he is disclosing. Detective Griggs is not a literal adaptation of the novel, but he substantially replaces Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch, the protagonist of Michael Connelly‘s earlier novel series, who appears as a cross-over in The Brass Verdict.

Ntare previously appeared on Showtime’s The Chi and presently plays in IFC Films’ Farewell Amor, for which he received the Durban International Film Festival’s Best Actor Award.

Lorna Taylor, who was played by Pell James in the Matthew McConaughey-led film, is played by Becki Newton in the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer. Lorna, Mickey’s second ex-wife, administers his cases and phone calls when he is on the road and in court. They married on the rebound after Maggie before finally splitting peacefully.  In a somewhat realistic portrayal of the character, Netflix’s The Brass Verdict gave Lorna Taylor more screen time, as she is essentially a voice on a phone line in book one.

Rebecca Sara “Becki” Newton is best known for playing Amanda Tanen on the TV show Ugly Betty. In How I Met Your Mother, she portrays Quinn, the dancer Barney falls in love with.

You may have seen the name Angus Sampson on the screen a few times before. He has appeared in films such as The King, Underbelly, and Where the Wild Things Are.
