Well, that is what the Will Smith slap gate has done to people all around the world. Despite the actor’s apology, it is still being referred to when anyone talks about the Oscars. Recently, Jimmy Kimmel opened up about him being the host of the upcoming Academy Awards while mentioning the slap-gate as well.

Chris Rock and Will Smith were close friends before the incident. Weeks after that night, the Men in Black actor apologized to the comedian and his mother, but it is understandable if Rock cannot move on that fast because nor can the world. As a host of the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony, Jimmy Kimmel opened up about whether the 2022 event might be mentioned in the 2023 ceremony.

No one is able to forget the Will Smith slap gate

Jimmy Kimmel will host the next Oscars Award ceremony. As he announced, he expressed his concern about the slap gate. It has been a tradition that the host of the contemporary year mentions the mistakes or the big moments from the previous year. And the Will Smith incident was pretty big to not mention it.

Jimmy Kimmel also remembered a mistake when he hosted the event in 2017 and they had to mention it as well in 2018. When Kimmel came to the stage and hosted the event in 2018, he took the joke about his mistake and owned up to it, too. Therefore, the comedian expressed his concerns and appealed to the artists that if they hear their names, give the host a few minutes, hear it out and then take any action.

While in the same event, after the incident, the Aladdin actor won the Best Actor Award for his performance in King Richard, and the audience applauded him. This was one of the shocking steps, according to Kimmel. He said, “Nobody lifted a finger. Spider-Man was there. Aquaman was there. Catwoman, all sitting on their hands. Nobody helped Chris Rock.”

Jimmy Kimmel will host the 95th Oscars on Sunday (The 12th of March, 2023). The event will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
