There are some incidents around us that take forever to leave our memories. An incident like the Oscar slap-gate is one of those incidents. However, there have been many discussions and interpretations of the situation. Will Smith won an award for Best Actor for his film, King Richard. While everyone seemed to be shocked when Smith slapped Rock, they also gave the King Richard star a standing ovation for the win. However, Mila Kunis didn’t stand up for the actor. She refreshed the memories and shared the reason behind not applauding the actor with a standing ovation.
Mila Kunis is a well-known actress who appeared in one of the famous movies named Friends With Benefits. While the actress has had an amazing journey in her career, she is also known for speaking her truth. Therefore, even after all this time after the Oscar incident, when she refreshed the memory, she shared her opinions openly and firmly. Why didn’t she give a standing ovation to the Oscar-winning actor?
Why Will Smith couldn’t get Mila to applaud
Right after The Fresh Prince assaulted Chris Rock, he received recognition for his acting in King Richard. Although almost everyone from the audience got up and gave the actor a standing ovation, some actors didn’t. Mila Kunis gives an astonishing reason for not supporting the ovation. She and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, stayed put because they didn’t want to set this kind of example for their children.
She explained further and said one day, their children would see the reactions of the parents to this unfortunate incident. Assaulting someone is an offensive act and to support that by applauding the next minute wouldn’t set the right example. “The idea of leading by example only makes sense when you actually have someone to lead,” said Mila.
It also shocked her to see the number of actors present there who stood up and applauded. She expressed her wonder and said, “Not standing up to me was a no-brainer, but what was shocking to me was how many people did stand up.” She further exclaimed and opened up about how as a society people live. Looking at the reaction like this to Smith’s win, she believed we live in a world where looking good is more important rather than standing up for the right.
