“Play Deadpool in this movie or..”- Ryan Reynolds Explained How He Was Once Threatened to Be in ‘X- Men Origins: Wolverine’
Ryan Reynolds was once pushed to play a superhero. While Deadpool is undoubtedly one of his best roles, the journey of it all was not very smooth. Marvel is clearly leading when it comes to bringing comic book heroes onto the big screen, but that means making some tough decisions as well.
The actor already struggled when his role as Green Lantern was not favored by the masses. To top it off, his attempt at playing a superhero in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was highly criticized. While the preparation for Deadpool 3 is on, he revealed how X-Men makers pushed him for his merc-without-a-mouth role.

Every actor does a movie that he or she is not completely into. For Ryan Reynolds, that was perhaps him playing Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. As per Koimoi, Reynolds once spoke to People and EW, wherein the movie makers told him, “Play Deadpool in this movie or we’ll get someone else to.”
As per him, he was confirmed to play the lead in his Deadpool movie back then. The actor was very attached to the project but was pushed to play Wade Wilson before Marvel could give him his own movie. To top it all, writers were on a strike around 2007-2008 and Reynolds was left to deal with the dialogues. He described the whole experience as being frustrating.
The outcome of which was not very good for him or his role. It took a lot of changes for him to make a comeback. He managed to reprise his role and make one of the greatest Marvel movies.
How playing an undeveloped Deadpool affected the character
The merc-without-a-mouth role of Deadpool attached a lot of criticism. For a hero that turned out to be so funny, it was a loss to sew up his mouth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. His role was not as significant as expected to be, and fans believed he deserved more than that.

Ryan welcomed the criticism and made changes to his role in Deadpool 2016. Now, not only is Deadpool 3 coming in 2024, but Hugh Jackman is joining the cast as Wolverine. Meanwhile, Marvel has already given a thumbs-up for Deadpool 4.
