The Witcher Production Designer Andrew Laws Talks Past and Present on a Tour of the School of the Wolf, Kaer Morhen
The world of The Witcher is one of the most complex ones we have seen on Netflix. The vast kingdoms, dark and magical woods, and glorious castles, it has it all. However, amidst all the intricate details laid throughout the show, there is but one location that forever ignites a sort of intrigue among fans. That place is the witcher school at Kaer Morhen. Hence, the Production Designer Andrew Laws took all the fans on a little tour of the home of the witchers.
Now, unlike the homes of any normal human beings, which are beautiful and full of nostalgia, the witchers’ home is a collection of trauma, memories of war, and battered ramparts. But how did it all happen? Why Kaer Morhen has the skull and bones of griffins and fallen soldiers in its yards? Here is a little something about it all, along with the alluring visuals from the fortress of The School of The Wolf.

Amid all the talks and news about The Witcher Season 3, Andrew Laws, the production designer of the show, decided to dive into the second season of the show. And even though the entire second season of the show was built around Ciri and her powers, fans were left mesmerized as they got to see Kaer Morhen in the live-action adaptation of The Witcher.
In the tour video posted on The Witcher’s Twitter handle, we see Andrew walk us through the destroyed entrance of the fortress. As we walk into the premises of Kaer Morhen, Laws tells fans how they call it the Kaer Morhen bailey. It is interesting to see how the entire structure is in a terrible state, as years ago, there was a battle that brought destruction to the witcher school here. As a reminder of that, there are broken towers that loom over the fortress, half-buried skeletons of griffins and fallen witcher and men, and also the gloominess associated with the memories of the battle.

Now, the battle that actually caused all this destruction and also the death of hundreds of witchers is something that we already saw in the animated film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. It was the mage Titra who planned to attack the witchers at Kaer Morhen and succeeded at it as well. She claimed that witchers were creating monsters in order to keep themselves relevant and in business, and she was indeed true. As the teacher at Kaer Morhen, Deglan was actually doing exactly that with the help of a few mages.
However, after the dust of the battle settled, it was just a youthful Vesemir and a few younglings from the school that survived. Among these young witchers, there was Geralt as well, the eventual hero of the entire saga of Netflix’s The Witcher. It’d be really interesting to see more of The Witcher lore in The Witcher: Blood Origin.
