The plot of Locke & Key (season-wise)

Season 1

Rendell Locke is a Seattle teacher who lives with his wife, Nina, and their three children, Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode. On a bad day, Rendell's student, Sam Lesser, a disturbed adolescent, breaks into his house and shoots Rendell and Nina. While Nina survives the gunshot, Rendell dies.

Following the catastrophe, the bereaved family relocates to Matheson and lives in Locke's ancestral estate, Key House. As the family settles down, Bode explores the land and discovers a well-house. He hears a voice calling herself Bode's Echo near the well. The Echo tells Bode that the Key House is full of mystical keys that can transform his appearance or transport him anyplace on the globe and that he must listen to their whispering in order to discover the keys.

While Tyler and Kinsey settle into their new school routines, Bode continues his key search. He eventually discovers the Anywhere Key embedded in Kinsey's bracelet, which was gifted to her by their late father. Bode returns to the well, amazed by the enchantment, and informs Echo of the keys he has discovered.

Echo dupes Bode and encourages him to use the Mirror Key, which might allow his family to see his father again. Bode uses the Mirror Key, and his mother becomes caught inside the mirror by mistake. In a panic, he seeks assistance from Echo, who demands the Anywhere Key in return. However, as soon as Echo has the Key, she departs from the well-house.

Bode tells Tyler and Kinsey the truth about the magical keys, and they help him save Nina. However, Echo's absence raises many suspicions. What was her name? And from whence did these keys originate? What motivated Echo to take the Anywhere Key?

Season 2

In season 2, the Locke children — Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode — had to figure out a lot of new keys on the fly, with far more at risk than when they initially stepped into Keyhouse in Matheson. Friends like Scott (Petrice Jones), Doug (Jesse Camacho), Zadie (Asha Bromfield), and Logan (Eric Graise), as well as familiar faces like mom Nina (Darby Stanchfield) and uncle Duncan (Aaron Ashmore), returned to the imaginative fantasy story, some with more knowledge about magic and Dodge than others.

Speaking of Dodge, Tyler and Kinsey's respective love interests, Jackie (Genevieve Kang) and Gabe (Griffin Gluck), arrived, although Gabe had more on his mind than a romantic connection. With the addition of Eden (Hallea Jones) as Gabe's, alias Dodge's, new demonic companion, the second part of the Lockes' saga delivered a strong punch.

With the aid of the town's newest residents, The Bennetts, even more layers of Matheson and Lockes' past were revealed. After the loss of his wife and Jamie's mother, Josh (Brendan Hines) chooses to relocate to Matheson with his daughter Jamie (Leishe Meyboom), who meets Bode. Josh is a history teacher at the boarding school, and his ancestors interacted with the Lockes.

Season 3

The second season of Locke & Key concluded on a physical and metaphorical cliffhanger. Gabe's corpse was never located when his magnificent new home fell down the cliffside, and the demon-possessed kid was thought dead. But, when it comes to demons, the Lockes should know better than to expect that a single horrific occurrence can deter Dodge from carrying out her evil plan.

In the upcoming edition, there are more villains than Dodge causing havoc, but some are fully trapped. Eden was flung recklessly down the dark hole after raising the Echo of the possessed Captain Gideon from the well. Her character will undoubtedly return. But after being tricked and exploited by the demons she had previously attempted to aid, speculations are circulating that Eden may flip sides and seek retribution with the Locke family.

Why is Locke & Key different from the regular Netflix shows?

On its surface, Locke & Key is just another fantasy show on Netflix. However, that is far from reality. It is one of Netflix's most original and intriguing shows. What separates the series from the shows is its ability to stay fresh with each new episode. Every single installment of the series is nothing like the previous. Even the showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill praises the series for its uniqueness.

"There's horror, there's fantasy, there's magical keys, there's a murder mystery, there's teen drama. And trying to sort those all out and kind of calibrate them and put them all together and make them all work together was something that's hard to do," said Cuse. "It doesn't fit into a box," Averill added, "which I think is what's made it difficult and a challenge to adapt, but also what makes it so special and unique."
