The pop stars of today and bygone eras have all played a significant part in influencing the fashion of the era. Elvis Presley, with that iconic hairstyle and the bellbottom pants, had every young guy sporting that hairstyle during the 60s. Coming to the 2000s, channeling Avril Lavigne, girls sported emo hair, funky accessories, and smudged eyeliners. Male pop stars now are no different. Harry Styles is taking all the risks in the fashion department, while Kanye West continues to experiment with his outfits.

However, John Legend still likes his coats tailored and sticks to traditional shapes and designs. In a recent interview with GQ, the All of Me singer spoke about the eccentric fashion of his ex-best friend Ye and Styles.

John Legend once shared why he will never emulate fashion choices of Harry Styles, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West

West’s clothing choices are as controversial and questionable as his statements. But one cannot deny that the man is bold. Kanye West always picks clothes that make a statement and is always successful in making headlines with his choices. The man’s sense of style is almost radical. Harry Styles, on the other hand, plays it up with bows, pearl necklaces, satin, and lace. His outfits scream gender neutral. Similarly, Pharrell Williams adds a touch of fun to all his outfits.

Legend, on the other hand, is a far cry from the two. The singer goes for more traditional fits, like a well-tailored suit, a long trench coat, or a high neck slim fit shirt. His more gentlemanly sense of style sets him apart from his contemporaries, and he is determined to keep it that way. While he appreciates what others are doing, he is not going to follow in their footsteps.

You can really see and appreciate their style as their own. I love what each of them is doing. Would I copy? No,” he said. The songwriter takes his fashion inspiration from older stars that he grew up watching.
