Oscars 2022 provided too much fodder for drama and entertainment this year. Unlike its previous editions which were a glorious affair, this year’s edition was marred by the Slapgate controversy. Will Smith shocked the attendance and the viewers when he walked on the stage to slap Chris Rock while he was hosting the Academy Awards.

In an entirely unscripted moment, the actor slapped him right across the face. Rock had made a joke about Jada Pinkett’s recent condition Alopecia. Several months after the controversy, it’s still a hot topic of discussion. And Smith is still trying to win over the Academy and Rock. Comedian Dave Chapelle has recently given his two cents about the incident and he’s clearly not in favor of the Prince of Bel Air

Dave Chappelle is glad that people are seeing the real Will Smith and not a mask

Dave Chapelle is currently on a joint comedy tour with Chris Rock. He recently addressed the slapgate and spoke against Will’s actions. He scathingly remarked that Will was wearing a mask all along, but the Oscars fiasco finally allowed people to see the real Will Smith. He further added that he sees himself in both men.

“Will did the impression of a perfect person for 30 years, and he ripped his mask off and showed us he was as ugly as the rest of us. Whatever the consequences are… I hope he doesn’t put his mask back on again and lets his real face breathe. I see myself in both men,” he said.

A few days after the incident, Smith had taken to his social media to apologize to Rock. He even uploaded an apology video recently but Rock isn’t quite ready to hear his apology yet. Many criticized the Bad Boy’s actor for not apologizing to Rock during the Oscars speech. Apparently, Chris has turned the incident into a set and has rejected his apology.

Smith is still facing backlash from the industry. Although he was allowed to keep the award for Best Actor for King Richards, the Academy has banned him from any Oscar-related events for the decade.
