Movies and TV shows have always inspired people not to just do good but be the best versions of themselves. And Netflix, with its huge library of diversified content, has played a huge role in it. Since its release, continuing on that trajectory, Heartstopper has seemed to help many people in either coming out or finding their preference.
How Heartsopper has impacted the LGBTQ+ community
Even before the release of Heartstopper, we knew that the show wasn’t going to be a conventional show about the LGBTQ+ community, as they were going to focus more on their lives rather than the struggles they faced. But the amount of love that the show is receiving for its portrayal of the community and especially for the character of Nick Nelson is exceptional.
People are thanking Nick the most because his character inspired many to finally come out in the open and be their real selves.
Here are some of the ways in which people thank Nick:
Nick is helping people to come out
Ever since the show’s premiere on Netflix, fans have flooded Twitter, thanking Kit for his honest portrayal of a young boy trying to find his preference. Nick inspired many to follow his lead and come out to their parents. This effect is not limited to the show.
This. This is why we did it. https://t.co/J81Tj5WyZK

Nick has been inspiring people even before getting his live-action debut. As we all know that the Netflix show is an adaptation of the highly popular Alice Oseman books.
So after the show’s release, people have come forward to proudly proclaim how Nick from the book helped them too.
thank you for bringing a character that so many people find comfort and hope in to life for us all. I don’t think I could ever explain how much nick has affected my coming out journey and accepting myself and seeing him now on such a big platform gives me so much hope :’)

thank you so much for your incredible acting as nick. I know that as a baby gay seeing that you can be bisexual on a big TV show and that my biphobic parents were wrong would've just helped me so much. you're helping the next generation and we all love you so much for it ❤️

Correct representation of the LGBTQ+ community via Heartstopper
Like we said before, Heartstopper is one of the few shows in the world that have rightly represented the people from the LGBTQ+ community.
Hence, Twitter is flooded with tweets praising the show for getting the early days of entering the LGBTQ+ community right.
there really isn’t much (good) bi representation in the media and you played the role perfectly :] it really means a lot

on a real note it seriously means so much to us and your portrayal of nick coming to terms with his sexuality was beautifully done. i’m so happy for the younger generation of lgbtq+ youth to be able to have this ❤️❤️

No but this scene really hit different… I think I've never seen a bi person come out in media and the fact that it was to his mom just made me cry my eyes out… Hopefully one day I'll be brave enough

And trust me. As a 22 year old bi person who didn’t have this kind of representation when they needed it, I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for queer youth

An extremely relatable character
Another aspect of Nicks’ character that people love is his relatability. People are happy that they finally have a character, who is bisexual and extremely relatable.
When Nick had to search online and take the quiz to see if he was gay, it made him even more relatable to the point that I got emotional. That’s something that I definitely did and I recall having the EXACT reaction at the time when I realized that I was also bisexual.

All in all to say thank you for bringing Nick to life. Not only was he relatable but one of few positive bisexual representations out there. Made me feel seen. 💕

Heartstopper is inspiring a new generation of LGBTQ+ community
Although not all people can immediately come out to their families as Nick did, they surely have been inspired by his story and are optimistic that they can also finally come out to the parents one day. Moreover, Nick and Heartstopper are making many LGBTQ+ individuals accept and love themselves for who they are.
I would really like to tell my parents about my sexuality one day. Maybe that's why I like Heartstopper so much, it makes me feel safe and that everything will be okay, but when your own family tries to offend you by making bad comments if I liked a girl, the fear increases.

I am so proud of you. 💕 I myself do not have supportive parents. But this show really gives me a sense of warmth. Everything makes me feel like I am really at home with people who truly understand my sexuality. I hope that one day I could come out like what Nick did. 💜🏳️🌈🍂🍂

It's triggered me way more than I anticipated. I'm not blaming it ofc, it's perfect & really worth watching, but the flood of memories & the reminder that I lacked the friends that Charlie is blessed to have, made me have constant triggered outbursts watching this amazing series.
