If you haven’t heard yet, there is a new young adult coming-of-age story in town. The story of two young boys at an all-English grammar school won hearts worldwide when it dropped on Netflix on April 20. With only eight episodes in total, it did feel like we didn’t spend much time with the boys, Nick and Charlie. So if you are curious whether Heartstopper will get a season 2 or not, we may have some answers.
Will we get a Heartstopper season 2?
Well, it’s too early to tell. Season 1 just dropped on April 20. Usually, it takes a few more months for Netflix to order new seasons. Since Netflix is data-driven, the more viewership a series gets, the more likely it is going to get renewed. So, you’ll have to wait until Netflix confirms anything.
When will the second season arrive on the platform?
See-Saw films’ Patrick Walters came across the series in 2018. See-Saw films got the rights to produce the series in 2019 and it was in 2021 when Netflix ordered it. Production commenced in June that year. So according to that timeline, we can assume that new episodes will not arrive before 2023. That is, if Netflix orders Heartstopper season 2.
What can you expect from the new season?
The first season saw Nick and Charlie having finally started dating. The former had quite a journey after he realized he was bisexual. He mustered up the courage to come clean to both his mom and his boyfriend. However, in the finale, we see them both agreeing that they want to come out to their friends too. But their homophobic school may not take to this news well. The next season is likely going to show us the struggle of the boys as they try to keep their romance alive in secret.
While season 1 covers the first two volumes, the upcoming season will dive right into book 3. You can expect a school trip to Paris, some more hijinks, and hotel tool mix-ups. You may also get more of Charlie’s backstory, and Elle and Tao’s romance.
