Despite how much we as fans adore Ryan Reynolds, we just cannot get over some of the truly terrible movies he was a part of. Obviously, the travesty that is DC’s Green Lantern immediately comes to mind. It had to be one of the worst things Reynolds was a part of and boy has he endured copious amounts of audience backlash for it. It took a movie as a banger as Deadpool for the forgiveness process to begin.

But did you know Ryan Reynolds was part of another comic book adaptation? We aren’t talking about his cameo as the annoying fast-talking Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Doesn’t ring a bell? That’s completely unsurprising as the potential franchise that really stunk up the place upon its release. We are talking about R.I.P.D., a sorry excuse for a comic-book adaptation with an anemic Rotten Tomatoes score of 12%. And that movie, my friends, is now getting a sequel.

Ryan Reynolds starer R.I.P.D. will have a part 2

Motion Pictures Association recently confirmed that a sequel to the appalling R.I.P.D. is actually in the making. The Association gave R.I.P.D. 2: Rise Of The Damned an official rating of PG-13 owing to mature language, violent sequences, and some crude sexual references. The movie will be a direct-to-video release. No wonder we have heard nothing about it yet.

While not much is known about the film, the IMBD page gives us some insight. Directed by Paul Leyden, the sequel will star Richard Fleeshman, Stephanie Levi-Joh, Kerry Knuppe, Stephanie Levi-Joh, and Jake Choi. There’s absolutely no mention of Ryan Reynolds. Perhaps, it is a good move for the Red Notice star to have a better screening process for new projects.

Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, the 2013 action comedy R.I.P.D. or Rest in Peace Department is based on the comics by Peter M. Lenkov and Lucas Marangon. It follows Nick Walker (Reynolds), a recently murdered cop who desperately wants to find out who killed him. He partners with a group of undead officers led by Roy Pulsifer (Bridges). They essentially try to expose damned spirits hiding on earth among the living in an attempt to avoid the underworld.

So why make a sequel for such a bad film? Soft reboots in the direct-to-video market often prove to work in favor of production houses like Universal Pictures. Many movies released through this format ended up being moderate success stories and making a quick buck for the producers. Chucky by Universal Pictures even went on to become a television feature after two DTV premieres.
