“Look Geppetto, I’m a real live boy!” Granted, this was just a hilarious throwaway line by Chandler teasing Joey on F.R.I.E.N.D.S, but the newly released trailer of the Guillermo Del Toro Pinocchio is out, and the excitement has reached new peaks. This darker rendition of the beloved children’s tale from the brilliant cinematic lens of the Academy award-winning Mexican filmmaker looks absolutely stunning.

Celebrities love the Guillermo Del Toro Pinocchio trailer

On 27th July, Netflix finally unveiled a teaser trailer for the much-awaited Pinocchio. It follows the teaser clip from January and shows Geppetto (David Bradley), a lonely woodcutter, creating the puppet boy Pinocchio (Gregory Mann). The cutting-edge stop-motion animated film shows a lot of promise from its teaser.

The first look at the story of “The wooden boy with a borrowed soul” has won many hearts of fans and celebrities alike. Twitteratis have nothing but praise for the trailer. The Guardians of the Galaxy writer James Gun found the teaser “delightful.” He, like us, is patiently waiting for the film to come on screen.

Also, the gorgeous Maria from West Side Story, the actress Rachel Zegler, also expressed her love for the movie and said it was sure to “break her heart.

Jumping on the bandwagon, the American animator and cartoonist Thurop Van Orman and the creator of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, commends the animated flick. He even mentions the Pinocchio writer and his “buddy Pat McHale,” who was his collaborator on Flapjack.

Guillermo del Toro, the Mexican filmmaker and the Genius behind masterpieces like The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Cabinet of Curiosities, also chimed in about his upcoming film. He credited the city of Guadalajara in Mexico and his “brand-new sister stop-motion animation studio” there.

For all those wondering what the hype about this children’s story is, let us give you the 101. Not to be mistaken as Disney’s live-action Pinocchio starring Tom Hanks, the Guillermo Del Toro Pinocchio is a much grittier adaptation of the beloved cartoon. The retelling is set in the 1930s in Fascist Italy. The Pinocchio, in this interpretation, is not the adorable wooden boy that we all love. He is notorious, a troublemaker, and definitely not an obedient son.

It stars several famous names as the voice for the lead and supporting characters. Ewan McGregor will voice Sebastian J. Cricket, who acts as the narrator of the film. Feature alongside will be Gregory Mann as Pinocchio and David Bradley as Master Geppetto. Even our favorite Mike Wheeler from Stranger Things‘ makes an appearance, as Finn Wolfhard is the voice of Candlewick. Other names like Christoph Waltz, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, and more have lent their voice to the film.
