Do you remember when Ross from F.R.I.E.N.D.S involuntarily starts talking in a British accent in front of his class out of sheer nervousness? He then hilariously covers it up by pretending to phase his British intonations out while he resumes his original accent. Looks like Millie Bobby Brown is facing a similar problem, but with her original accent.

Recently, an interview with the Stranger Things actress came to the limelight for a bizarre reason; her accent. Her flawless American manner of speaking even had some fans perplexed. Have all the States side projects transformed her accent completely?

Is Millie Bobby Brown outgrowing her British accent?

Although born in Spain, Millie Bobby Brown actually spent her formative years in Dorset, England. Barring her projects that warranted an American accent, the young actor, until recently, spoke the Queen’s English in public. A few days ago, on October 27, the 18-year-old actress appeared on The Tonight’s Show with Jimmy Fallon. While her anecdotes always delight the audience, this time they could only concentrate on her American accent.

Funnily enough, the actor was promoting her film Enola Holmes 2, wherein she portrays a quirky English detective. However, in one clip doing the rounds, Brown continuously speaks in a quintessential California accent. No wonder the fans were confused.

In an earlier interview with Radio Times, Millie Bobby Brown shared her struggles with her constantly changing accent while shooting for Enola Holmes. Apparently, her accent was gradually fading away ever since she moved to Florida at 8.

“For the last five years I’ve been playing an American character in Stranger Things and I found it really challenging being British in this, even though I am a Brit,” stated Brown.

She even admitted having needed speech lessons for the British flick since she was so “used to speaking in an American accent.”

Fun fact: By her own admission, The Godzilla vs Kong actress perfected her American speech by imitating Miley Cyrus from her Disney Channel show, Hannah Montana. Currently, Brown is filming The Electric State. Given the retro-futuristic movie follows her journey through the Midwest, it is safe to assume that her American twang comes from there.
