“I don’t believe that…”- Jon Stewart Defends Dave Chappelle and Kanye West, Amidst the SNL Controversy Regarding Anti-Semitism
In recent times, Kanye West has become the favorite target of various media houses and publications, thanks to the controversies and legal feuds that always surround him. Even though Kanye West has done some very questionable things in the past, his recent antisemitic comments landed him in a plethora of problems including the fallout with multi-billion dollar brands such as Adidas and Balenciaga. While several known celebrities were criticizing the Flashing Lights hitmaker, comedian Dave Chapelle on the other hand defended him.
Dave Chapelle and Kanye West are two of the most successful black men in the industry today. Furthermore, the two are great friends who love and admire each other. So unsurprisingly, Dave Chapelle appeared on Saturday Night Live and addressed Kanye’s antisemitic comments, and defended him. As Chapelle finds himself becoming another target for the masses, former Daily Show host Jon Stewart came into the comedian’s defense and talked about West. But what did he say? Let us find out.

Jon Stewart defends Dave Chapelle and talks about Kanye West
Jon Stewart and Dave Chapelle have been friends for a long time. And recently, Stewart appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert addressing the recent antisemitic comments by celebrities. Following Chapelle’s controversial appearance on Saturday Night Live, Stewart came into the comedian’s defense.

The former Daily Show host revealed how he answered all the people who asked him bout Dave’s monologue during SNL. Stewart spoke, “It’s incredibly normal. I don’t believe that censorship and penalties are the way to end antisemitism or to gain understanding. I don’t believe in that. It’s the wrong way for us to approach it.”
Many of you might not know but Chapelle and Stewart’s friendship go back years. The duo even starred together in the 1998 stoner comedy Half Baked. Apart from Chapelle, Stewart even came into Kanye’s defense as he spoke about censorship. Referring to the controversies surrounding Kanye, the former Daily Show host revealed how people should try to see and understand things from the “Black perspective.”
