Kanye West has always been a controversial celebrity. The 22-time Grammy award winner is one of the most well-known rappers and producers in the music industry and also has a very successful career in business. However, in recent times, the Flashing Lights hitmaker is always under the spotlight, not for his music but for his controversial opinions. But despite the fact that West sometimes does questionable things, one cannot deny that he is one of the greatest musicians there is. And previously, even renowned comedian Dave Chappelle admitted it. But what did the comedian say about West?
In recent times, West finds himself surrounded by controversies. Off late, many known celebrities and popular individuals have criticized and called out the rapper for his actions. However, early in his career, the rapper was well liked and praised for his music. Here is what Dave Chappelle had to say about his first encounter with the Heartless hitmaker.
Dave Chappelle recalls his first interaction with Kanye West
Back in 2014, Dave Chappelle appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, where he talked about his first time meeting the 808’s & Heartbreaks rapper. Interestingly, West first performed on TV on Dave Chappelle’s show. The comedian revealed how he did not know the rapper until he performed on his show. Praising the rapper, Chapelle added how one could tell that West would be a star.
He revealed how his friends advised him to book West for his show. Chapelle compared the Donda Sports owner to the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. Describing his first encounter with the rapper, the TV show host spoke, “It was like Muhammad Ali in Olympic Village, he just knew he was gonna get the gold.”
Interestingly, this happened the same day Jay-Z released his album, Black. Chappelle revealed a hilarious incident of the rapper when they were playing Jay’s album along with Common and Talib Kweli. While listening to the album, the only time Kanye spoke was when he wanted to replay the verse where Jay-Z rapped, ‘Kanyeezy, you’s a genius. You did it again!'”
As of late, West finds himself in hot water with Adidas over Yeezy designs. Furthermore, the rapper recently got a copyright lawsuit over his song ‘Life of the Party.’ Meanwhile, his divorce with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, nearly finalized with the financial papers turned in from both ends.
