Henry Cavill, the handsome nerd, is currently seen wielding a sword in The Witcher. The Netflix series has given out two successful seasons so far with an anticipation of a third one. Cavill has proven to be perfectly suited for the role, not only considering his looks but also his acting skills and commitment to the role. His commitment, however, took him down a path of seeking inspiration from an iconic Game of Thrones character.
We could assume that an interest and passion for the source material are what helped Cavill bring the character to life. However, there is more to it. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the Man of Steel actor was asked about a comparison between Geralt of Rivia and a Game of Thrones character. It is then the actor admitted that this Dramatis Persona inspired him when prepping for his role in The Witcher.
Henry Cavill shares his inspiration for Geralt of Rivia
During a 2020 interview, Jimmy Kimmel made a side-by-side comparison of Geralt of Rivia and Game of Thrones‘ Khaleesi, pointing out how similar the two characters look. “I modeled myself off Khaleesi,” joked the actor in response. He also shared how he asked people on the sets to call him Khaleesi, Emilia, and even Mother of Dragons. This was when The Witcher was about to release and fans were making comparisons between the Netflix Original and the HBO show.
While fan comparison may have been unfair and Henry’s comment may have been a joke but there are some similarities between the two characters. Both are golden-haired fantasy characters from an epic set in periodic times. Khaleesi, played by Emilia Clarke, is the Mother of Dragons, who goes from a shy girl to a ruthless mad queen. Meanwhile, Geralt of Rivia, played by Cavill is a tall and strong monster hunter with supernatural abilities.
To sum up, both share extraordinary abilities, commanding language, and a powerful aura as common character traits. Despite this, they are unique in their own way.
Although Game of Thrones is over, the success has led to the spin-off series House of Dragon. The series shall be a dance of the dragons with a focus on the Targaryen civil war. Meanwhile, The Witcher has begun its shooting for season 3. Netflix, on 4th April, dropped the confirmation with a photo of the actor in their tweet.
