From playing an honorable knight to taking the role of a fallen angel Gwendoline Christie underwent a transformation. The Sandman brought her as Lucifer, the figure of folklore, who is the biggest evil ever known by mankind. We saw the first glimpse of the character in episode 4 when Dream and Matthew visit Hell. His journey to retrieve his helm from a devil leads to a showdown between Lucifer and him.

Gwendoline Christie got to understand Lucifer in the pandemic

Christie plays an infernal character in the Netflix adaptation of Gaiman’s graphic novel The Sandman. Viewers saw golden-haired Lucifer Morningstar draped in shining robes giving a wicked smile to Dream.

“Lucifer is isolated and I think something that we’ve all felt during this time is that isolation is also a terrible disease, you know?” said Gwendoline.

The actress got the role when the pandemic started so she meditated on the character deeply. She connected with Lucifer saying perhaps loneliness has made him wicked.
