From ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Inventing Anna’, Shonda Rhimes Continues Her Triumphant Wins on Netflix
Shonda Rhimes has been in the industry for years, starting with Grey’s Anatomy. Recently, she got the spotlight for Inventing Anna and Bridgerton. As is the norm with a Shondaland series, Bridgerton is different than other period dramas. Where such series are coy, British, and unapologetically white, Rhimes wanted a more inclusive and bold narrative. Obviously, this approach led to speculation over the show’s success. However, after the 2020 release, she had the last laugh because the regency period drama was a hit. Bridgerton quickly became one of the most streamed shows on Netflix.
In a brief span of time, Rhimes followed this success with Inventing Anna. The show follows German fake heiress claimed to have $60 million dollars in her trust fund. She ends up fooling a lot of influential people and high-end banks. The show highlights a hot-mess character with a unique accent and soaring monologues. One thing is for sure, Shonda knows how to make content binge-worthy, and she knows a thing or two about triumphant wins with shows.

Shonda Rhimes is behind some of the best television shows of all time, like Grey’s Anatomy, which became one of the longest-running scripted shows on American television. The show has 19th seasons in total and also has two spinoffs, like Station 19 and Private Practice. It is, then, no wonder that the show creator is successful and sought after by Netflix.
After Grey’s Anatomy became successful, Rhimes created with another political show, Scandal related to Washington, DC. Another popular creation of Shondaland is How to Get Away with Murder, the fast-paced legal drama. The lead character of the show, Viola Davis, even won an Emmy for her acting. Despite such successes on TV, Rhimes quickly chose to associate herself with Netflix owing to lowered pay. And boy did she pay the streamer back for their invest with hit shows like Bridgerton and Inventing Anna, both of which have a huge following.
For the past decade, Netflix brought in some of the best creators of the industry like Star Wars director JJ Abrams, and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss. In 2018, the streamer also reeled in Fox’s Ryan Murphy. Shonda Rhimes joins these creators now that Netflix renewed her contract to a multiyear extension. However, unlike them, she continues to give the streamer binge-worthy and hit content. And we are sure with this contract extension, we can expect more shows like Bridgerton from her.
