Showrunner and producer, Shonda Rhimes is known for her ability to churn out hits. Moreover, she also has impeccable taste in interior design. A mother of three she recently opened her Bridgerton inspired home for fans. Michael S. Smith worked on an Upper East Side home and you can clearly see the Bridgerton influences. It has all the touches of opulence and royalty that are associated with 19th-century homes.
Her living room looks like it came right out of a period drama featuring a gilt-wood large mirror, yellow curtains, and printed teal wallpaper. In contrast to that, her bedroom is all neutral. It is smaller in size and Smith decided to make the vibe relaxing using neutrals and cool blues.
“It was smaller than some of the places that I looked at, but I knew immediately. It has this wraparound terrace, and the light coming in was incredible.
It felt like a place where even though you’re in the middle of a city, you feel like you’re in your own little refuge,” she expressed.
Rhimes work in Bridgerton spilled into her home
In conversation with Architectural Digest, Rhimes explained, “I had been immersed in the romanticism of ‘Bridgerton’ for a while, so that had to influence some of the things that I had been thinking about,”
“Everything sort of spills into everything else. If I’m thinking about these books that we’re turning into a series, then that inevitably spills into how the apartment’s going to look, which inevitably spills into what goes in the scripts—it all sort of spins together.“
Both grand and homely, the showrunner, explained that this isn’t her vacation home, but she stays here mostly for work. She had thought hard about creating a space that would not have kids, before collaborating with Smith again. The two had worked together on Shonda’s Los Angeles home before.
Smith designed the place keeping in mind her creative process. He utilized several nooks and corners in the house to allow Rhimes to relax, enjoy the outside view and write.
Shonda’s latest venture, Inventing Anna has been a massive hit. And right on the heels of it, the second season of steamy period romance, Bridgerton will be debuting on March 25.
