Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stole all hearts when they got married in 2018. While for some, especially the Sussexes, it is a moment they cherish and celebrate, others see it as the moment the countdown for Prince Harry’s departure from his family began. Ever since Markle and the Prince joined hands, there have been countless reports on all the protocols the couple has broken, together and individually. However, the Duke followed a very intricate tradition of the men of the royal family on his wedding to Meghan Markle.

The California-based royal carried forward his father and brother’s legacy of inviting exes to the wedding. Not inviting exes to an unspoken rule in the book of decency that even people devoid of most etiquette choose to follow. Therefore, Prince Harry raised many eyebrows when he invited not one but two of his exes to his wedding.

Why did Prince Harry invite his exes to the royal wedding?

Two guests, namely Cressida Bonas and Chelsy Davy, made headlines on May 19 because of their presence at the royal ceremony. The Sussex royal shared an intimate and serious relationship with the two women. Davy and Prince Harry were in a relationship from 2004 to 2011 and there were often speculations about them tying the knot. He started dating Bonas in 2012, but they broke up within two years. 

“Apple does not fall far from the tree,” a remark often used to describe the similarities between Prince Harry and his late mother Princess Diana. However, in this case, it seems to be a reference to King Charles. During his marriage with Princess Diana, King Charles not only invited now Queen Consort Camilla, but she also showed up in a white dress. Fortunately, history did not repeat itself and both of Prince Harry’s exes were found dressed in vibrant colors. But the testimony of a viral meme, not in a vibrant mood.

The legacy was also followed by Prince William. During his ceremony with Kate Middleton, the Prince of Wales invited four of his exes. However, Prince Harry’s case is different because of his long-standing relationships with both of his wedding guests. The British royal family is notorious for its stiff upper lip, but we doubt that is the reason behind their silence on why exes are invited to weddings.

Was Meghan Markle aware of said exes?

The royal family is picky with its guests. Extra picky in the case of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, if you ask Thomas Markle. Therefore, it would be impossible for Markle to not have noticed that two of Prince Harry’s exes have shown up among the six hundred wedding guests.

Anyone would have understandably thrown a fit, but that was not the case with Meghan Markle, as reported by Daily Express. In fact, she impressed the former girlfriends with a “big hug” at the reception.
