Superman enjoys a massive fan following worldwide and even Marvel fans are in awe of the character. Over the years, we have seen various crossovers between extremely successful actors. But never have we witnessed Robert Downey Jr. and Henry Cavill together in a film. So for what role in the Superman film was Robert Downey Jr considered? Let us find out.

Robert Downey Jr was almost a part of a Superman film

Many of us know that the 2013 film Man of Steel was the start of an iconic director-actor duo, Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill. However, only a few of us know that before Snyder, Joseph McGinty Nicho had almost become the front-runner of the film. Sadly, it never happened as the director had a fallout with Warner Bros before the 2006 film Superman Returns. The Charlie’s Angles director revealed how he wanted to cast Robert Downey Jr. as supervillain Lex Luthor.

McGinty added, “We had Robert Downey Jr. locked up to be Lex Luthor, which I think would have been extraordinary. Ironically, we liked Henry Cavill a lot, but we hadn’t cast him yet.“ Although it was not Cavill Brandon Routh who played Superman it would have been extremely entertaining to see Robert in a DC film. Considering Robert’s latest look on social media, Lex Luthor would be an apt role for the actor.
