The film describes World War 2 when Doss refuses to use any war weapons and takes bravery as his only armor. The soldier was honored with the Congressional Medal in respect of his devotion and true patriotism. Moreover, he saved about 75 people in the battle of Okinawa without firing a shot. The film was highly appreciated at the time of release and even got nominated for an Oscar six times. Garfield received AACTA Award for Best Actor for his role in the movie.
