The Universal Pictures production will see its release in July, 2023. It will feature Peaky Blinders star, Cillian Murphy in the lead role of Robert J. Oppenheimer. This $100 million project will also have an ensemble cast featuring Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Kenneth Branagh, Matt Damon, Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, and Josh Hartnett, among others. What is this Cillian Murphy starrer going to be about?
If you thought that the cast of The Harder They Fall is as good as it gets, Oppenheimer is here to give the Netflix Original a run for its money. Directed by Christopher Nolan, this film is about the life of Robert J. Oppenheimer. This is the man who is responsible for the creation of the first atomic bombs.
Oppenheimer and his wife, Kitty (played by Emily Blunt) were a part of the Manhattan Project. The events, which took place at the beginning of World War II, show fans just how his one research group led to the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one of the darkest chapters in the world wars.
After the end of Peaky Blinders, fans assumed that this was the end of Murphy’s period drama era. This seemed quite despondent, especially considering the confirmed news of Cillian Murphy not returning to the sets of the spinoff movie. Hence, it is exciting for them to see that the actor is still in character. The coats and hats that the Shelbys don became the signature of the Netflix series. The lead actor is playing a similar role in his upcoming project as well. Oppenheimer will mark Murphy’s fourth collaboration with acclaimed director Christopher Nolan.

As for Florence Pugh, this actress is busier than the USA in the 50s. The Little Women actress has also not fallen far from the tree as she continues to maintain her streak of period dramas. After Little Women, Lady Macbeth, Malevolent, and Outlaw King, the actress will appear alongside Harry Styles in another film set in the 50s called Don’t Worry Darling. After seeing Pugh in the beige coat and 50s bob, fans certainly see why creators keep casting her in historical films.
