‘Army of the Dead’ Winning Oscar Will Always Remind WB of Their Zack Snyder Misstep and Eventful Loss
If you have been active on the internet for the past few years, you must know what a sensation was the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. The campaign run by fans to see the original non-edited Zack Snyder cut of Justice League was a huge success. But after Zack’s other film Army of the Dead won an Oscar too, it proved how Netflix supports and believes in projects when others do not.
Leaving Zack Snyder was WB’s biggest mistake
In one of the main revelations of the 2022 Oscars, two new non-award categories, Oscars Fan Favorite and Oscars Cheer Moment, were developed. The winners are selected by internet voting in a bid to entice younger, general audiences to come into the program. Army of the Dead took up the prize for Fan Favorite at the Academy Awards.

The climax Speed Force action of The Flash from Zack Snyder’s Justice League also won the Oscars Cheer Moment vote. Army of the Dead’s victory emphasized what Warner Bros. sacrificed by letting Snyder make the picture at Netflix. This not only proves that Warner Bros. missed out on an opportunity to win an oscar.
But with Matthias Schweighöfer’s prequel film Army of Thieves, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, an animated prequel series, is in the works, and Planet of the Dead, a direct sequel also coming soon, it is obvious that WB lost out on an opportunity to produce a really successful universe.
While Zack Snyder’s Justice League’s Oscar Cheer Moment award exposed WB’s errors with that picture, Army of the Dead‘s triumph highlighted a missed opportunity on the studio’s behalf.
