Recently, after a wait of almost three years, the Brothers released its fourth outing, taking the world by storm. And now that the penultimate season is over, the universe is waiting to unveil everything that will come in the name of Stranger Things season 5.

While this penultimate season of Netflix’s golden goose worked its charm upon humanity; it had its own sets of drawbacks. Many fans sent their disappointment to the internet about the same. The fourth season undoubtedly became eerier and scarier than its predecessors, setting a binge-worthy stage for its final outing.

However, the episodes were too lengthy and sometimes fans felt they were stretching it too much. Talking about the final season in the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Duffer brothers addressed this issue and even hinted at how they will build the storyline. The episodes of Stranger Things season 5 will be comparatively shorter

The legendary episodes of this eerie series have been nothing shorter than 80 mins. And the episodes which were a part of season 4’s finale were no shorter than an hour and a half. Although fans very much cherish the show, they do agree that the episodes could have been shorter. And it seems like the creators took their opinion. The Duffer Brothers told in the podcast that episodes of Stranger Things season 5 will be much shorter, except for its last episode or the grand finale. “We’re more likely to do what we did here, which is to just have a two and a half hour episode,” Matt says, referring to the series finale.

Matt further explains why the earlier episodes were lengthy. According to him, each season was complete within itself and the kids had to re-adjust themselves, and a story had to be built before the final showdown. “None of that is obviously going to be occurring in the first two episodes,” Matt says. “For the first time ever, we don’t wrap things up at the end of four.” When it comes to the final season’s pacing and start point, Matt notes that “it’s going to be moving fast” though they’re not sure if it’s “going to be moving 100 miles per hour.”

Matt Duffer also hints at the final season’s storyline

According to Matt Duffer, characters will already be ready to fight Vecna in the series finale. “Characters are already going to be in action, they’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this season feel really different. I’m sure the wrap-up will be a lot longer,” Matt adds, before saying, while laughing, “It’s going to be Return of the King-ish with, like, eight endings.” The Return of the King also showcases the final battle, with four to five endings.
