Hit Nickelodeon animated TV series, SpongeBob SquarePants has been a source of entertainment since 1999, but is it available on Netflix? Enjoyed by many, both young and old, the series has made significant contributions to popular culture. The Nick show features a Sea Sponge as its titular character. He is called SpongeBob. Wait, it gets more amusing. He lives in a pineapple that is under the sea which is again called Bikini-Bottom. SpongeBob along with a host of other characters, Patrick the starfish, Gary the meowing Snail, and Squidward the Squid bring lots of laugh-worthy moments. 

The show has spawned multiple movies and is running for 2 decades! It has nearly 262 episodes in total! Additionally, Netflix partnered up with Nickelodeon to come up with exclusive spin-offs. With the spin-offs, the SpongeBob universe will expand even more.

Can you watch SpongeBob SquarePants on Netflix?

Technically yes, and no. The series is only available in selected regions. 20 regions to be exact. Plus the regions where Netflix carries the show, do not have all 12 seasons. Unfortunately, SpongeBob SquarePants fans in the United States have to suffer since the show isn’t available on Netflix. You can find the show streaming half its seasons on Amazon Prime and the other half on Nick. 

Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan, and Latin America can stream 5,6, and 7 seasons of the show. 

There are also fewer chances of Netflix US getting all the seasons. ViacomCBS has been working on its own streaming platform: CBS All Access. 

What about the movies?

The most recent addition to the Bikini-Bottom universe, Sponge on the Run will hit the streamer soon. Netflix had picked up the exclusive rights to stream the movie internationally. Thus the movie won’t get a theatrical release. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is available in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. You can stream 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in Belgium, Spain, Russia, France, and the Netherlands. Although Netflix has teased us with spin-offs, no other information on the project is available yet. This is what we know so far: one is a musical series, the other two are movies.
