There is something about controversial movies and shows that captures our attention immediately. Well, apart from all the heat it creates; dramas like The Hunt on Netflix are always on our watchlist because of their enlightening premise. However, if you are not sure what to stream, and what to leave; we are always here for you. In this article, we have combed down all the must-watch controversial movies and shows, along with their storyline. From 365 Days to Messiah Netflix has it all. Mind you though, you will have to buy time, and strong viewpoints to stream them.
Starring Michelle Monaghan as a CIA agent investigating enigmatic entity Al-Masih, the show may have some anti-Islamic sentiment. Although not politically controversial like The Hunt, this accusation led to the cancellation of the series after just one season.
According to Islamic eschatology, Al-Masih ad-Dajjal is some evil figure whose name translates to ‘the deceiver or false messiah’ in Arabic. You can stream the sole season of the show on Netflix.
Cooking on High
Cannabis-focused programs such as Cooking on High and Disjointed were forced to be removed from Netflix Singapore.
Singapore Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) published a written demand for the same. Seemingly, Singapore has some tight drug laws. It has zero tolerance for illegal drugs and convicts are in for long jail tenures. However, subscribers from other countries can still stream this show.
The First Temptation of Christ
Made by a Brazillian YouTube comedy group, The First Temptation of Christ depicts Jesus as a gay man. Of course, it is controversial enough to have the gut to attack the Christian belief right away.
Notably, more than two million people signed a petition asking Netflix to remove this comedy. Apparently, beloved Jesus is in a gay relationship with his friend Orlando. Owing to the outcry from subscribers worldwide, but especially in Brazil, the streaming platform removed the film in September 2021.
Although not controversial in ways The Hunt is on Netflix, 365 Days bagged dual reviews for reasons like no other. The polish movie revolves around Laura Biel, who is kidnapped and assaulted by Don Massimo Torricellias. Ironically, this mafia is in love with Laura and gives her a time period of exactly one year whilst she is held captive.
While many labels it as ‘softcore porn’ others have accused it of arousing Stockholm syndrome. A petition calling for its removal from Netflix states that the film “perpetuates the glamorisation of rape culture”.
Do let us know in the comment section, which of these movies or shows you found controversial enough? Also, what are your thoughts on it?
