The 70s and the 80s saw the rise of the slasher horror genre with classic movies like 1974’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In a way, Tobe Hooper’s movie was the first movie that flirted with the Hixploitation subgenre. It was a box office hit, with Leatherface, the cannibalistic villain, successfully inserting himself into people’s nightmares. Wielding a chain-saw Leatherface would chop off people just for his morbid pleasure. 

The movie further spawned several sequels and a recent addition is the Netflix Original movie, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The David Blur Garcia-directed movie has all the classic slasher horror tropes and trademarks. Leatherface returns to continue striking horror among the group of unsuspected youths in a rural town in Texas.
