Inventing Anna: Reel Life Anna Delvey Meets Real Life Anna Delvey In Prision
There’s no doubt why Julia Garner is the Deserving Emmy Awards candidate. She leaves no stone unturned till she is the breathing embodiment of the character. Clear from her role in Netflix’s crime-thriller, Ozark, Garner doesn’t stop without achieving the utmost perfection. Although Ozark will end anytime soon, Garner is up for yet another stellar performance. She recently joined hands with Shonda Rhimes for her Netflix original miniseries, Inventing Anna.
What is the true story of Anna Delvey?
Anna Delvey, 30, is a faux socialite scammer, posing as a German heiress with a huge amount of money. She swindled New York’s wealthy elite of $200,000 and diddled an ex-vanity fair photo editor to pay a $62,000 tab for her luxury vacation in Morocco.

In April 2019, a Manhattan jury convicted Delvey on four counts of theft services, three counts of grand larceny, and one count of attempted grand larceny. Notably, they sentenced her to four to 12 years. She was given an early release in February 2021 and then taken into federal custody due to visa issues.
Shonda Rhimes, along with Julia Garner, will bring this scandal to our homes on February 11. Netflix controversially paid the real swindler $320,000 for the rights to her life story, $200,000 of which went to restitution, according to the New York Post.
Julia Garner of Netflix’s Inventing Anna visits Anna Delvey in Prison
Earlier, Garner revealed, the most difficult thing in becoming Anna Delvey was to learn her accent. “If I didn’t have the accent down, then I wouldn’t have a lot of the character down,” explained Garner. She used to listen to rap music that included Delvey’s favorite, Eminem’s Lose Yourself to learn the Russian-German hybrid accent.
Recently, Julia Garner visited Anna Delvey in the Albion Correctional Facility outside of Buffalo, New York. Interestingly, the first thing she inquired about was her character’s accent in this Netflix Original that revolves around her life. Talking to the Town and Country, the actress shared, “she’s like, ‘Please, let me hear it.’” However, she didn’t disclose Delvey’s reaction.

Further, beguiled by Anna’s fiasco, Garner asked the swindler if she had time to ponder upon her actions. To which she responded, she was too busy learning ”stupid culinary arts,” referring to the tailoring classes the inmate took whilst in jail.
Garner admits that she likes Anna, but in a sick way. “She’s in a full jumpsuit saying, ‘I’m obviously not going to make myself food when I get out of jail.’ ” Seemingly, she is curious if real-life Anna will like the reel life Anna as Garner will portray her in Inventing Anna on Netflix hoping that they have Netflix in jail.
