Currently the most popular comedian in America, Pete Davidson returned with a comedy act for the first time in three years. He is part of Netflix’s biggest comedy festival ever, Netflix Is A Joke’s lineup. The man rose to fame in 2014 after he appeared on Saturday Night Live. For his special act, Pete Davidson Presents: The Best Friends he brought over rapper turned punk rocker, Machine Gun Kelly to the stage. The two are arguably the biggest names in their respective industries right now. But there’s a story of struggle and perseverance behind the two best friends’ fame. There was a time when they were close to accepting their failing career.

Pete and the musical sensation share a special bond since they lived together in his mother’s basement. They were struggling and going through a tough time. He shared the story in his introduction to MGK.

“We celebrated Christmas together in 2018 and we both looked at each other from across the table. We were at my mom’s house, we were living together at my mom’s house, in her basement. I remember we were looking at each other like, ‘It’s OK, our careers are fucking over it’s fine.’ We had fun it’s all good who would have thought we could do anything, right?‘”

Machine Gun Kelly rapped his way to the Billboard music charts way back in 2012 with his debut album Lace Up. His breakout single was Wild Boy. The album peaked at #4. Several years later, the rapper ditched his rapping career and transitioned to punk rock. His 2020’s Tickets To My Downfall entered the charts at #1. 

What’s next for the two stars?

MGK entered the Billboard number 1 again with his subsequent rock album, Mainstream Sellout this year. While Pete Davidson is focusing on his acting career. He has two projects in the pipeline, Bodies Bodies Bodies, releasing August 5, and Good Mourning releasing on May 20 this year.
