March 25, the date Bridgerton will arrive on Netflix is quickly approaching. And knowing the fans well, Netflix has been keeping the fans well fed with a good amount of teasers and content. Recently, the team collaborated with the British Fashion Council to create another stunning collection. This marks their second collaboration. Needlessly to know, even the second time around the Regency-inspired outfits are gorgeous!

Jenny Packham mentored three BFC scholars Ifeaynj Okwuadi, Latifa Neyazi, and Jeongmin Ji to create the stunning period costumes. The outfits not only reflect the period but also the unique traits of the characters. 

Luke Thompson (Benedict Bridgerton) and Luke Newton’s (Colin Bridgerton) outfits are designed by Ifeanyi Okuwadi. Jeongmin Ji dressed Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury) and Charithra Chandran (Edwina Sharma). Meanwhile, Latifa Neyazi designed for Golda Rusheuvel (Queen Charlotte) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton).

The designers have used the shoes from the Malone Souliers x Bridgerton Collection. 

Ifeanyi Okuwadi’s designs emphasized the Bridgerton brothers’ connection to Wedgwood tableware

Okuwadi used Cyanotype printing to design the brothers’ costumes. He took inspiration from their narratives and personalities before getting to work.

“I then looked into ways to visually express narratives using a method of print called cyanotype printing, which consists of creating an emulsion made from iron-based materials, coated on a natural fiber base fabric, and exposing the coated fabric to the sun,” he explained.

On the other hand, Jeongmin wanted to add a modern twist to the Regency outfits.

Latifa added drama and extravagance to her outfits keeping in line with the show’s tone. She said, “I was inspired by the drama, romance, and extravagance of the show.” 

Latifa: The boldness, the colors, and that it transports you to a different time and era

Despite the modern fashion of today, the historical outfits still fascinate people because of their extravagance and boldness of it. “The strong, but pretty, outfits shown in the program are still an inspiration for today’s womenswear,” echoed Joengmin. But Okuwuadi has a different perspective: “It was a time when both women and men had certain liberties and freedoms within dress to let them express themselves to an audience, or within class systems.” And he feels it is the very same reason why people still resonate with the regency fashion.
