In Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman each character has a story of their own that is detrimental to the narrative of the series holistically. And the same has transpiers to its Ntelifc adaptation. Therefore, some characters are different, yet the close to the original ones. A character from the live-action series which intrigues us all was Johnna Constantine played by Jenna Coleman. Just like Dream, the Lord of Dreaming, Constantine also has difficulties with humans. The American fantasy drama, The Sandman, is now streaming on Netflix. While Dream has had some unpleasant experiences with the human world, he tries to deal with his bad experiences with the help of Death and Hob Gadling. But we could understand the changes in his character only after getting to know his background. Even Corinthian also shares his pain about his duties and his feelings against Morpheus when they are standing against each other at the conference.

And, just like these larger-than-life characters, Constantine also has a background in her role. Jenna Coleman plays two versions of the character: the present-day descendant based on the original, John Constantine, and her identical eighteenth-century ancestor Lady Johanna Constantine. She has a love interest in the show as well, which doesn’t end on good terms. Jenna opens up about her character in an interview. Johanna has a tough exterior and has problems with human relationships.

Jenna says it is about self-protection because she has a big heart. Johnna shuts everyone out, which she uses to deflect completely. “It’s such kind of a lonely character, as well, and using humor in that was as well to kind of defense mechanism all of the time,” says Jenna.

Johanna Constantine is an occult detective in the show. An occult detective, unlike the traditional detective who investigates a murder and other common crimes, is employed in cases involving ghosts, demons, curses, magic, vampires, undead, monsters, and other supernatural elements. We see Johanna Constantine for the first time in the show, solving a case for the church. She also helps her ex-girlfriend, Rachel, which reveals a lot about her character.
