This year our hearts were stolen by the leader of Hellfire Club, Eddie Munson. However, the club itself has become iconic since the success of Stranger Things. Many viewers were hearing the name of the club for the first time. But those who were fans of the famous The Sandman comics were sure they had heard it before. And they are absolutely right.

What is The Hellfire Club in The Sandman?

Long before the Netflix adaptation, viewers fell in love with Dream and his kingdom through the comics of Neil Gaiman. In the comic books, readers were introduced to many different characters and destinations, one of them being The Hellfire Club. Do not mistake it for the Dungeons & Dragons playing club in Stranger Things.

In the comics, The Hellfire Club is actually a place where Dream goes to reclaim his helmet. In the comics, the club is described as a damp basement where Dream challenges a Demon to a game of riddles. Winning would result in Dream getting back his iconic helmet. However, if he lost, he would’ve had to remain in Hell for eternity.

What is The Hellfire Club in Stranger Things?

Eddie Munson led the Hawkins High Hellfire Club, an official D&D club at Hawkins High School. Dustin, Mike, and Lucas are also members of another D&D group.

Eddie, as Dungeon Master, developed and hosted the “Cult of Vecna” campaign in March 1984. Soon after, an unknown perpetrator conducted a series of heinous killings in and around Hawkins. Dustin and his buddies called the murderer “Vecna” after Eddie’s campaign.

Will the club appear in The Sandman live-action adaptation?

With the club being of such great importance, its appearance seems likely in the new live-action adaptation of The Sandman releasing on the 5th of August. But we will have to wait and see if the club does make an appearance or not.
