DC Comics is one of the largest and oldest American comic book companies, with their first comic under the DC banner published in 1937. The Sandman is one of the comic books published by DC Comics. An English author of short fiction, novels, comic books, graphic novels, nonfiction, audio theatre, and films, Neil Gaiman wrote it. The original series ran for 75 issues from January 1989 to March 1996. Recently, Netflix streamed the live-action adaptation of the comic by the same name.

The adaptation stars Tom Sturridge as Morpheus, Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt, along with many extremely skilled actors. The show premiered on August 5, 2022. It received positive reviews from critics, with praise for the casting, production design, costumes, faithfulness to its source material, visual effects, and performances, particularly those of Sturridge and David Thewlis. However, the appreciation from a fellow DC writer means a little special to Neil Gaiman.

A fellow DC writer calls The Sandman Extraordinary!

A writer appreciating another writer’s work with the utmost honesty is priceless. While The Sandman, Netflix’s original series, is receiving an immense amount of love from all over the world, it recently received an appreciation tweet from a fellow DC writer, Brad Meltzer.

He called the show an extraordinary realization of Neil Gaiman’s classic and also praised the adaptation for being very close to the original one. He has read the original comic since the day it was published and knows the book a little too closely. As Brad wrote, “It uses story & myth to tell story & myth, never losing Dream’s brilliant evolution,” we all felt the words to be absolutely true.

Throughout the show, we see Dream, Master of Dreaming, becoming softer. At the beginning of the show, we see him as cold and distant, unlike Death. However, with her and Hob Gadling‘s help, we see Dream changing his perception of humans and his duties as well. Even in the bonus episode of the show, we cannot stop ourselves from appreciating the brilliance of the creator, Neil Gaiman, and the talented actors.
