A sweet coming-of-age love story between two young guys, Heartstopper is truly a sweetheart. The Euros Lyn direction quickly reached people’s hearts. And it teaches us so much about acceptance, inclusivity, and the struggles of gay love. All that while keeping the show light and fun but heart-touching.

Heartstopper is based on Alice Oseman’s web-comic of the same name. It casts Connor as Nick Nelson and Joe Locke as Charlie Spring in the lead. The story centers around two British teens, one, a famous high school Rugby star Nick Nelson and the other, Charlie, a shy boy. The series takes us along in their journey of accepting each other’s love, and facing society as individuals and together. Here is what we can learn from it.

Here are 5 Love Languages the show taught us

Love language is simple: It is how we love a person and what we perceive as love. There are different types of love languages including service, gifts, affirmation, quality time, and physical touch. In a YouTube shorts video, titled ‘Every day is a Nick and Charlie Day,’ we see Heartstopper scenes that depict these love languages. We have listed them below.

Acts of Service: In episode 4, Charlie tries to get hurt on the pitch, ending up in Nurse’s office. Nick affectionately wipes and helps to wipe the mud off his face. Although their relationship is still a secret, they forget it all when in a loving moment together.

Receiving Gifts: In Episode 5, Charlie receives a handmade gift from Nick. That too on his birthday party. The gift is a framed photo of the lovebirds who first spent time alone at Charlie’s place with his pup.

Quality Time: In episode 2, like soulmates, Charlie and Nick together get an idea as it snows. They head outside to play in the snow together, lovingly taking snowball shots at each, laughing and making memories. Memories that Nick melts in as he scrolls through the day’s photos.

Physical Touch: In episode 2, we feel a jolt of electricity just as Nick does. In a moment of confusion and love, Nick wants to hold Charlie’s hand. Questions about his own sexuality give him physical pain as he tries not to hold Charlie’s hand as he’s asleep. But he doesn’t manage to give the latter a long hug while leaving, which also tells Tori that the rugby star might be gay.

Words of Affirmation: In Episode 8, Nick gives Charlie a surprise trip. They go to the beach where they finally get their proper dreamy date. Eat fish and chips, ride on carousels, click photos and just lie on the beach together.

Nick finally shouts, “We’re boyfriends” in the last episode of season 1.

When does the next season of Heartstopper come out?

Heartstopper has released one season so far on 22nd April.  And considering the success and positive views of season 1, Netflix has finally announced for the second season is to be released.

On May 20, Netflix announced the double renewal for the show. It is speculated to be released in either September on Fall of 2023. If you haven’t watched the show yet, it is available to stream on Netflix.
