Ryan Reynolds never got to know his dad
Having a good relationship with your parents is a luxury that not many can afford. And unfortunately, Ryan was also one of those people who never got a chance to have a great relationship with his father.
Being the youngest in a family of four brothers, Ryan says he saw his father as someone who just shared the house with him and nothing more. That’s why the actor said when his father died in 2015, he was angry, “I was mad at him when he died. As I didn’t get the opportunities to get to know him.”
The Red Notice star then went on to talk about how his father was an extremely funny man just like Ryan but was “inaccessible.”
Adding to it, Ryan mentioned how his dream during his childhood was just to sit with his father and know how he felt. Because as Ryan describes it beautifully, “It’s the felt part that gives you context.”
After his comments, Ryan said that he and his father did not talk much his whole life, but his last words to Ryan have stuck with him as it was the only “talk” he gave him. Ryan says that with his last breath, his father told him to “wear a condom.”

Ryan feels his daughters would’ve changed him
Reynolds certainly was moved by the sudden passing of his father. In fact, his father, before dying, FaceTimed Ryans’ eldest daughter, who had just been born and was named after her grandfather.
The emotional distance between Ryan and his father even gave birth to The Adam Project in a sense and is something that Ryan feels his daughters would have fixed had his father been able to spend some time with them.
