Within Few Days of Its Release on Netflix, Sci-Fi Movie ‘Morbius’ Tops the Chart
With thousands of shows and movies in the catalog, it is challenging for new releases to make a mark for themselves on Netflix. The streaming platform offers so many choices to the viewers that new shows have to be different from their competition in order to stand out from the crowd. However, there are a few exceptional shows and movies that instantly create a mark for themselves. Morbius is one of them, as the sci-fi movie immediately rose to the top of the chart on Netflix US shortly after its release.
Morbius: Box-office dud but hit on Netflix
Morbius was first released worldwide in April 2022. However, the sci-fi film did not do well at the cinemas as it only earned 163 million dollars globally, including 74 million dollars in the US. But like they say, never lose hope. Recently, Netflix announced the release of Morbius on its platform on September 7, 2022. Surprisingly, a couple of days down the line, the Jared Leto starrer is the number one film on Netflix US.

Notably, the film did not receive a good rating from critics. On the Tomatometer, Morbius has a meager 15% critic score, while IMDb gave the film 5.2 stars on a scale of 10.
Morbius is the third film in Sony’s Spiderman Shared Universe (SSU) and follows the story of a dangerously ill Dr. Morbius with a rare blood disorder, who attempts a risky gamble to save others suffering from the same disease. What seems like a noble cause later unleashes an unquenchable thirst for blood.
The film stars Jared Leto, known for his roles in Suicide Squad and The Little Things, as Morbius, the living vampire. Matt Smith, who played Prince Phillip in The Crown, also appears as Loxias Crown. The cast also includes American actor Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes and actress Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft. Morbius is part of Sony’s five-year deal with Netflix, previously announced in 2021.
