Why James Gunn Axing Henry Cavill’s Superman and Snyderverse Is Actually for the Good

Why James Gunn Axing Henry Cavill’s Superman and Snyderverse Is Actually for the Good

Amidst all the uncertainty, James Gunn’s plan for the DCEU’s future makes sense. Especially when it comes to Henry Cavill not getting Man of Steel 2 or the allover future of the Snyderverse. There have been many outrageous reactions to Gunn’s recent announcements about the DC characters and actors. However, there is a sense behind not continuing the characters forward.

Although it might bring a lot of controversies for James Gunn and the DC Studios, the ending of the Snyderverse might actually be a good thing. However, there isn’t any official announcement about the end of the Snyderverse. But the way Gunn plans to take the DC Universe, it seems the Snyderverse will end. Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman getting canceled was more shocking. But how can it be good for the future of the studio?

Henry Cavill not returning as Superman can actually be a good thing.

Zack Snyder’s DC movies’ journey started with Man of Steel in 2014. However, the unexpected reception of the later films made Warner Bros Studio pull out their involvement. But eventually, Synder’s Justice League was released on HBO Max. Now, under the new leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safron, it seems the future of the Synderverse has officially ended.

The reason for Synder’s film not getting positive reviews was his vision was different than the expected one. His vision adopted a darker tone than the iconic book and characters. However, because of the poor performance at the Box Office, Warner Bros got scared of carrying forward Snyder’s vision for the DCEU. Although Wonder Woman (2017) got positive attention, Warner Bros and DC’s specific persons started interfering with Snyder’s projects.

They wanted him to go with a little lighter tone. But the problem was the lighter approach didn’t match the darker style of overall Snyder’s vision. In addition, Snyder left the Justice League mid-production because of his personal issues. Therefore, DC hired Joss Whedon, the MCU director, to complete the film.

So, what does it mean for the Snydervrse?

Because the film had two different visions, the result wasn’t as fruitful as expected. Ultimately, the film left the universe chaotic and without a proper direction. Although the post-credit scene of Black Adam saw the comeback of Superman, fans’ hopes got high. But Gunn’s announcements about the characters like Superman, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman, suggest the end of the Snyderverse.

Since the day he left Justice League, Zeck Snyder hasn’t returned to the DCEU. However, Gunn hasn’t canceled some of the characters from the universe. But now it is too late to restore the Snyderverse because the damage is too significant to control. Also, there is a line between Zeck Snyder and Warner Bros.

Therefore, ultimately, fans might not see Snyderverse being carried forward. Moreover, James Gunn has a creative vision for shaping the DC Universe. So, he might also not like to do it based on someone else’s vision. Although we are yet to receive official announcements about the future of the Snyderverse, it might be a good thing to end it here and restore the DC Universe individually.
