The Witcher Season 2 is finally here, and it is literally the most amazing thing that has happened this year. The characters that we fell in love with 2 years ago are finally back and are looking as beautiful as ever. But there is one thing that we can’t help but notice about one character in the Netflix series; Ciri looks a little different in season 2 of The Witcher.

While Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra look almost the same as the previous season, fans noticed substantial changes in the appearance of Ciri in season 2. But why did it happen?

The first answer that may come to anyone’s mind would be that maybe they recast the actress. Is it the case with Princess Cirilla of Cintra? The answer is no. Ever since season 1 of The Witcher, Freya Allan has essayed the role of the swallow. She will play the role for a long time, as it has been really amazing to see her performance as the Lion Cub of Cintra. It almost feels as if Freya was born to play this role, just like Henry Cavill was born to play the role of Ciri’s father figure, Geralt of Rivia.

Why does Cirilla look different in Season 2?

There is no denying the fact that Ciri looks different in Season 2 of The Witcher. One simple reason for this dissimilarity in Ciri’s physical appearance in season 2 is COVID.

The first shoots for the series were scheduled for February 2020. At that time, Freya was an 18-year-old kid. However, due to the global pandemic, the shoot went on till March 2021. By that time, Freya was just 5 months away from her 20th birthday. Hence, the changes you see in her appearance are nothing but the natural growth and changes that a human body goes through.

Allan is not the first actress/actor to go through such a difficulty, and neither will she be the last. Netflix itself is not alien to this problem; as we have witnessed the cast of Stranger Things age dramatically between seasons.

The one striking change that everyone watching The Witcher Season 2 notices is Ciri’s new eyebrows. While for the entire first season we saw Freya Allan donning bleached eyebrows, the new season marks the end of those eyebrows. So how exactly this change of color came through? Allan revealed the entire story while talking to Collider. She said, “I was the one who said, ‘I’m so sorry, but if we are’ — which hopefully we will — ‘get to do many more seasons, I am not going to have any eyebrows left if they are bleached every day of The Witcher. They won’t be there anymore. And also it requires you spending however many months walking around in the streets looking like you are off Mars.”

She continued, “genuinely had people stop me when I had the bleached eyebrows being like, ‘Where are you from,’ and they were so curious because I literally looked like a little alien wondering around. It was my choice. I said, ‘I think we’re done with the bleached eyebrows. I think that was a bad idea.’ So yeah, ditched the eyebrows. I mean, just got my own usual eyebrows back!
