In a cover interview with Teen Vogue in 2017, Millie Bobby Brown opened up about what inspired the character of Eleven in Stranger Things. During her conversation with Drew Barrymore that the plot of the show is hugely influenced by E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
The science fiction movie depicts an extraterrestrial entity who befriends a boy named Elliott on Earth. Just like that, Eleven become friends with Mike after she runs away from the National Hawkins Lab. However, Eleven was not an alien but a kid with powers who knew nothing about the outer world.

“They wanted me to feel like an alien but also have genuine relationships, like the one with Mike,” explained the young actress. Moreover, Barrymore, who played the role of Gertie in E.T. said that the film and the show are relatable in many ways. For instance, both storylines are based on the sense of family humanity and suburbia while exploring the unimagined world.
Meanwhile, the actress talked about how she connected with the show for the very first time at auditions. She stated that she fell in love with the Netflix sci-fi drama instantly and connected with Finn Wolfhard during the screen test. Well, Millie Bobby Brown’s love for the show is still the same after four seasons of success. In fact, she was scared that she might bring her character’s habit from Enola Holmes 2 to Stranger Things.
