A single controversial event happens in someone’s life, and a lot of things change. Especially if you are a public figure, there are a hundred things you will be accountable for. And Will Smith is the perfect example. After the Slapgate controversy, he has been under the radar of many entities. Many of his movies and shows also got canceled because of the whole fuss. Smith later apologized to the committee for swearing on Chris’s name. But that one sentence made people question his philosophy of not cussing in his rap songs.

After the Awards ceremony, the actor shared the wholesome reason for not using profanity in his songs on the David Letterman show. Apparently, after reading the very first draft of his songs, his grandmother advised him that one does not have to essentially use bad language to express themselves. This became a life-changing tip for him. Even before that he has been vocal about it. When Smith shared his success as a rapper during an award ceremony, he mentioned how he got up there without using slang or any such language. And it probably triggered other prominent rappers such as Eminem.

Eminem also shared his disappointment in an interview, mentioning “I respect his opinions but not everybody is as happy as Smith. But don’t diss at nobody else. I felt like he was taking a stab at me, Dre, and anybody who uses profanity.” He then explained there is no harm in using slang when expressing intense emotion.

Smith has always been a wholesome person on and off the screen. His life morals and down-to-earth personality are still an inspiration for many. While Eminem is right in his way. We must not forget using or not using profanity is entirely a personal choice. It doesn’t make Smith greater or other rappers any less talented. Now, after Smith’s explanation in My Next Guest Need No Introduction and knowing Eminem’s fandom one can safely say both are talented in their own ways. Let us just hope everything is settled between the two important personas of the industry and not judge anyone by their choices.
