David Harbour is most widely known as Eleven’s dad and Hawkins sheriff, Jim Hopper from Stranger Things. But very few know that he already had his big-screen debut in a 2019 Hellboy, even before he starred alongside Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow. But it’s best to forget that film because it was a big-time flop at the box office. That led him to run to Ryan Reynolds for some advice on dealing with major flops in his career.

David Harbour needed coping advice from the Deadpool star

The 2019 flick was originally supposed to be a sequel to 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. However, when the original director Guillermo del Toro withdrew from the project so did actor Ron Perlman. The studio then decided to take it in a different direction – make it an R Rated version of Hellboy

And once the film was released, his fears became true. The film flopped and was brutally criticized.

“It was a very difficult experience because I wanted a lot out of it. I really like [Mike Mignola], I like that character. And then immediately when it began, even when it was announced, I realized that people did not want that character reinvented. I was very naive and optimistic about what we were going to do,” he said.

“I know him a little bit. I called him and I was like, ‘Hey man, I just need to know something. You know Green Lantern? Huge flop for you. What the f**k is that like, because I think I’m going to hit that right now. Am I gonna be okay? Am I gonna survive this?'” he asked. He even mentioned that Ryan was “sweet” about it.

The Green Lantern is probably the biggest dud of the Deadpool star’s career. The film was largely panned and too many criticized the cheap CGI and Reynold’s sub-par suit.
