What Is ‘White Noise’ on Netflix Starring Behemoth Stars From ‘Star Wars’, MCU, and the ‘Barbie’ Movie?

From the genius mind that brought us Marriage Story and The Meyerowitz Storieswriter-director Noah Baumbach is back with another compelling drama titled White Noise. This Netflix Original film is the result of an exclusive deal signed in January 2021 between Noah Baumbach and the streaming goliath. White Noise on Netflix is the first of many to grace the streaming platform.

And Baumbach has approached this film all guns blazing. In fact, White Noise Netflix is all set to open the prestigious 79th Venice film festival on August 31. It will be the first Netflix film to debut on the opening night of the distinguished event. For those in the dark, let us give you the 411 about the upcoming head-turner of a film.

What is White Noise on Netflix about?

Noah Baumbach’s White Noise is an adaption of National Book Award holder Don DeLillo’s 1985 postmodern novel of the same name. It’s a unique tale revolving around a suburban college professor, Jack Gladney, specializing in “Hitler studies,” who lives with his wife Babette and seven children (kids and step kids).

Their mundane life takes a 180-degree turn when a train accident causes a major chemical leak in their town, termed “The Airborne Toxic Event.” If the hysterical official logline is anything to go by, the satirical black comedy will keep you hooked and on the edge with its unique and unforgettable narrative.

The film promises to take you through an emotional roller coaster. What might appear as dealing with a doomsday mishap actually explores basic and often overlooked concepts like death, love, and a pursuit of happiness. Through absurd comedy, White Noise attempts to bring to light feelings beyond the surface level through the struggles of a contemporary American family.

The Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens star will play the role of the father and husband Jack Gladney. Joining him as his on-screen wife, Babette, is Noah’s real-life and creative partner Greta Gerwig.

In fact, Gerwig and Baumbach co-wrote the upcoming film Barbie starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie. White Noise also stars Don Cheadle, the memorable James Rhodes AKA War Machine who has been part of the MCU since Iron Man 2. Apart from that, the film will also feature Jodie-Turner Smith, André Benjamin, May Nivola, Sam Nivola, and Raffey Cassidy in various roles.
