The whole world was excited when the news got out that Ncuti Gatwa would be the new Doctor Who. However, apparently, the biggest supporter of Ncuti’s new role is none other than Ryan Gosling himself. The actor openly shared his excitement to see the Sex Education star in the role of the time-traveling Doctor.

However, his appreciation has received a hilarious response from the showrunner of Doctor Who, even stating they might sue Ryan. Want to find out what happened? Then keep on reading.

Why is Ryan Gosling getting sued?

Ryan Gosling is among Doctor Who fans who are looking forward to Ncuti Gatwa’s forthcoming debut as the eponymous time-traveling extraterrestrial.

The Grey Man actor wore a bootleg Doctor Who t-shirt with Gatwa’s face on the set of Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming Barbie film. Gatwa captioned a photo of Gosling wearing the shirt on his Instagram account, “dolls supporting doctors.”

Russell T. Davies, who will succeed current showrunner Chris Chibnall as Doctor Who showrunner, also commented on Gosling’s knockoff shirt and posted the photograph on his own Instagram.

“This is, genuinely, Ryan Gosling wearing a t-shirt of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who,” Davies captioned the photo. “We’re suing him, of course. Illegal merch.”

The BBC revealed in May that Gatwa, who is also renowned for his part in Netflix’s Sex Education, will be taking over for the current Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. 

There are no authorized goods available to commemorate Gatwa’s casting because he has yet to take up the on-screen mantle of the Doctor.

Ncuti and Ryan both are currently working together on Barbie. The duo will play two different versions of Ken. Interestingly Ncuti is the second Sex Education actor to get casted in the Barbie film.

Audiences shall also see Ryan in the high-action thriller The Gray Man, which releases in July. And Gatwa will also reprise his role in Netflix’s Sex Education 4.

Neither Barbie nor Season 4 of Sex Education has official release dates. However, both can premiere by 2023.
