‘Uncoupled’ Star Neil Patrick Harris Reveals His 11-Year-Old Daughter’s Odd Movie Preferences, and How ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘The Shining’ Make Up Her Watchlist
Gone are the days when you could scare kids with a monster under the bed or an ominous Babadook-like character to get them to eat their veggies. Born in the internet age, content consumption and binging is just part of their vocabulary and day-to-day activities. Has exposure to all kinds of films and TV shows from a young age desensitized kids to the horror genre? Or is it one person’s cup of tea and another’s absolute nightmare? Neil Patrick Harris wonders the same thing about his 11-year-old horror fanatic daughter.
Harris’s 11-year-old is nonchalant about The Shining
In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris candidly discusses his family life and his twins. He shares how he’s “spending time” with his cool-aged 11-year-olds. “It’s a fun age, where you don’t have to really micromanage them all of the time. And you can sort of hang out and coexist with them, right?” Also, in a true-blue dad fashion, Neil hilariously expresses, “They’re (kids) watching content. Gideon (his son) is a big gamer. He loves Minecraft.”

With an air of almost disbelief, Harris also informs Fallon that his daughter, Harper, “is into horror movies.” Neil also states his conundrum of whether to encourage his daughter to continue watching horror films or downright forbid it. He is even aware that forbidden fruit will only be more appealing to his tiny thrill seeker. “She has seen It now. Scary. She binge-watched Stranger Things,” says Neil.
Even though “The Shining is really psychologically terrifying“, the cool dad had a “father-daughter moment” and watched the macabre flick together. The scariest movie, according to Harris, filled with “Jack Nicholson. Super freaky, bloody elevator. The girls starting”, did not seem to faze his daughter in the slightest. If fact, to Neil’s disbelief, his daughter said she was “mildly disappointed.” Conversely, Neil also admitted that his daughter “slept in our bed for like the last four nights.”
Meanwhile, we will see Harris in the upcoming Netflix series, Uncoupled.
