Season 2 of The Witcher ended on a massive cliffhanger as additional factions joined the hunt for Ciri, and one of the many things it set up for season 3 is a new band of sorceresses. Yennefer sacrificed herself to save Ciri from the Voleth Meir, which returned her abilities, but Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer can’t have their happy ending just yet.

The finale of The Witcher season 2 also revealed that the entire Continent is now chasing Ciri for various reasons, with her main adversaries right now being The White Flame, her father, and the Wild Hunt, who made a brief cameo in the last episode. The Brotherhood of Sorcerers has joined the roster of foes, establishing a new squad of sorceresses in The Witcher season 3: The Lodge of Sorceresses.

What to expect from The Lodge of Sorceresses in The Witcher season 3?

Tissaia de Vries (Myanna Burning) heard from Triss Merigold (Anna Shaffer) in The Witcher season 2 that Ciri was in Kaer Morhen and that she had Elder Blood. Ciri’s Elder Blood implies that she has the ability to save or destroy the world, according to their interpretation of Ithlinne’s prophesy.

Despite Triss’s request that Tissaia keeps this information to herself, Tissaia shared it with Vilgefortz, who regarded Ciri as having the capacity to end all wars. Meve, on the other hand, pointed out that Ciri was better dead, therefore they approved a reward for Ciri and anybody defending her.

The Witcher season 3 will now be based on the book Time of Contempt, which depicted the Thanedd coup, an attack amongst mages at one of Aretuza’s conclaves. The mages were covertly divided between supporters of Nilfgaard and the North and since both sides attempted to catch the other side off guard during the conference, violence erupted, and many were hurt or murdered, thereby ending the Brotherhood of Sorcerers.

This, however, created room for a new group: The Lodge of Sorceresses. This covert organization was founded by female mages, with Philippa Eilhart (Cassie Clare) as its commander.

Members of The Lodge of Sorceresses include Triss Merigold, Sabrina Glevissig, Francesca Findabair, Fringilla, and Yennefer. While they appear to be a powerful solution to Ciri’s problems because they have the power to keep her safe, in the books, the Lodge of Sorceresses also wanted to use Ciri for the wrong reasons and were ultimately no better than Vilgefortz and company.

However, as previously stated, Netflix’s The Witcher has already deviated significantly from the source material, so the role of the Lodge of Sorceresses in The Witcher season 3 could be different, and they could become allies rather than yet another group from which Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer will have to hide.
