Of course, that was a wyvern, not a basilisk.

Barker, the charlatan in Gors Velen, tries to pass a wyvern off as a basilisk to his show&#8217;s oblivious audience. He has no idea that among them is a young witcheress who recognizes that this is not a basilisk.

When Ciri calls him out on his falsehoods, Barker becomes furious, and the wyvern escapes from its prison. Ciri carries her blade with her and kills the wyvern, luckily. This scene will give us a look at the sword skills of Ciri on an actual target, not dummies at Kaer Morhen.
