‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Loses an Important Writer After Two Seasons of Absolute Brilliance
One of the most anticipated shows out there, The Witcher season 3, has seen its fair share of ups and down. With absolutely no updates on the show for months, the start of the filming process made avid fans of the show rejoice with glee. Sadly, the show suffered from further delays recently when actor Henry Cavill tested positive for Covid. However, with Cavill’s recovery, the filming schedule is now back on track. While there is no formal news about filming, the show should wrap up by mid-September. However, the new season brings with it a major change with respect to its creative team.
From new talent being added to some of the crew taking on different roles, there is recruitment and reshuffling within The Witcher team. Speaking of changes to the show, the writer’s room for the fantasy drama set in medieval times will see a few alterations. While most writers on the list are familiar names who worked tirelessly on the first two seasons, The Witcher Season 3 might witness a major absentee on the roster. Let’s find out who it is.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich to take a step back from writing
Recently, Deadline released a full cast list for the upcoming season of The Witcher. Along with the new actor recruits and their roles, the site also credited the entire creative team, including the writers. Unexpectedly, the creative team listed Lauren Hissrich as the showrunner but did not credit her as a writer for season 3.
This is understandable, considering that Hissrich has her hands full with not only The Witcher franchise but also the many spin-offs. With her new deal with Netflix to churn out more content for the giant streamer, her talents and attention are focused on that. However, as showrunner, Hissrich will be more than involved in the overall narrative and story outlines, even if she doesn’t write the episodes.
The Witcher season 3 writer’s room
Mike Ostrowski, Tania Lotia, and Haily Hall, the recurring writers at The Witcher, are still part of the team. Rae Benjamin, script coordinator for season 2, and Javier Grillo-Marxuach will join the team as full-time writers. Clare Higgins, Troy Dangerfield, and Matthew D’Ambrosio have been an integral part of the show since season 1 in different capacities.

Starting out as writer’s assistants, they’ve taken on many roles and now are officially part of the writer’s room. Grillo-Marxuach has written the ambitious Thanedd sequence, while Troy Dangerfield has penned down the finale of the much-awaited season 3. It would be no surprise if Hisrich had more hands-on involvement in these pivotal and climacteric episodes.
The Witcher season 3 is speculated to premiere sometime in 2023. However, a Christmas release in the form of The Witcher: Blood Origin might just keep the eager fans at bay. In the meantime, one can always re-watch the first two seasons of The Witcher on Netflix.
