With less than a month to go, filming for Season 3 of The Witcher is nearing completion. Filming was delayed earlier this month when the main actor Henry Cavill tested positive for COVID. He has subsequently healed and is back on set with the rest of the actors, filming one of The Witcher saga’s most crucial moments, the Thanedd party and coup. Both directors, Loni Peristere and Bola Ogun are hard at work on their individual episodes. While Loni Peristere is filming the Thanedd coup at Longcross Studios, Bola Ogun, who is directing the final two episodes, is filming the sequences in the Korath Desert where Ciri is lost.

Parts of the sequence were shot last month near Erfoud, Morocco when Freya Allan and The Witcher crew visited in early July. Now that they’re in London, they’ve decided to film expansions of the scenario in a site that closely mimics the Moroccan desert. The Witcher has been filming at a quarry on the edge of London for the past several days, which is assumed to be Moorhouse Sandpits near Oxted.

Ciri’s trip in the Korath desert features prominently in Andrzej Sapkowski‘s Time of Contempt. Korath is a region of definite death since no human can withstand the intense heat and creatures that reside there.

Ciri landed in the desert by mistake after fleeing the Thanedd coup via the Benavent portal. Because the gateway is unstable, she is ejected across the deserts of Korath. She is lost and wandering across the desert. But then she encounters the unicorn Ihuarraquax, with whom she crosses the desert together. Korath has a horrible encounter with Ciri, which influences many of her decisions later in The Witcher novels.
