‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 4 Can Be a Perfect Ending To the Show, Here’s why
As one of Netflix’s flagship shows, The Umbrella Academy had a great run for 3 seasons. The chronicles of the Hargeeves super siblings received an abundance of love and appreciation from fans, especially during their last season. However, the show isn’t perfect and has its fair share of ups and downs. With The Umbrella Academy season 4 officially on the cards, the creators have an opportunity to sign off with their heads held high.
Inspired by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic book series, the superpowered adoptive siblings face one disaster after another throughout the show. Perhaps with a clear end in sight, they can avoid one apocalypse: a disappointing finale.

Why should The Umbrella Academy end with season 4?
The Umbrella Academy has found itself in Game of Thrones territory. Hotel Oblivion, the source material for the show, is still unfinished. Yet, the TV show has not only caught up but also overshot it by introducing the Sparrow Academy storyline. The audience, still recovering from the disappointing GOT finale, will certainly not be forgiving of another unsatisfying ending.
Moreover, Netflix has announced shorter episode lengths for season 4. This decision can go either way. The Umbrella Academy season 3 separated the characters into factions for most of its run. While this was great for individual character arcs like Allison’s or Victor’s, it opened up several plot points that now need closure.

Given that the episodes are shorter, exploring individual narratives will either leave some major questions unanswered or wrap up in a rush. If the show sticks to its season 3 storytelling style, it is possible we will be left handing in mid-air craving for a pay-off.
Having said that, if the creators opt for a tight narrative structure instead, it might work in their favor. Unlike the previous season, the ultimate one needs more joint storylines. The show needs to delve into the character dynamics after the latest apocalypse. Have the equations changed? Have they evolved or regressed? What the show might need is a wholesome culmination and some sort of resolution.
